There is no doubt 2020 has been a challenging year for everyone, in business and across our creative industries, so to choose to launch a start-up amidst a global pandemic is a bold move. For MillK, this was exactly the case and a move that has paid off as they approach their first anniversary.

Founder Karen Milligan says, ‘I made the decision to take the plunge and set up my own independent production company early in 2020, pre-Covid. Nobody could have predicted what was to follow, yet we have been so fortunate as the demand for film content and production companies with our diverse range of skills has seen exponential growth.’

With a varied client base, working directly with brands as well as agencies and broadcasters, the MillK team have been working harder than ever to offer creative solutions for their clients. ‘Our background in live events, digital and broadcast has allowed us to offer some really unique solutions for our clients who were facing huge challenges with their brand communication plans during Covid. This year we’ve turned charity fundraising dinners into National Television appeals, we’ve adapted creative treatments to ensure TV commercials could continue to shoot during lockdown, we’ve helped live events agencies deliver virtual broadcasts and offered innovative ideas to our agency partners on how to re-shape their business offering, with film content as the lead component.’

Karen (former dock10 Creative Director and WRG’s Head of Film) explains, ‘It’s so exciting to be expanding our team and moving into our new city centre premises after only 10 months in business. I’ve developed and managed film teams for many years and it’s so important to me that MillK attracts the right talent, and we build a culture that allows each individual to grow. I pinch myself daily at what we’ve achieved together as a team in such a short amount of time. And the support we provide each other both personally and professionally is really humbling.’

The MillK team is approaching their first anniversary with a slate of TV documentaries in development, exciting branded content campaigns in production and new agency partnerships (to be announced soon).
