MPA Thrive bring in SAS veteran after research shows just 30% of workers are engaged by their job

An SAS veteran has been brought in to coach Manchester business leaders after research revealed just 30% of workers in the region are engaged by what they do at work.

This year’s MPA Thrive event will see former special forces veteran Martin Murphy employ proven SAS tactics to give Manchester businesses a better chance of success.

Martin – famed for his From Mercenaries to Missionaries book – is one of a raft of elite business speakers at this year’s MPA Thrive event – being staged at INNSIDE in Manchester on Thursday May 23rd.

Martin’s talk will focus on how businesses can become more effective leaders of people by utilising psychological trust and working together in small teams.

Martin’s speech comes on the back of research, revealed by fellow MPA Thrive speaker Nikki Gatenby, that some 70% of the Mancunian workforce turns up to work with just one aim – not to get fired!

Award-winning business expert Nikki, a leader, writer, speaker and consultant in her role as MD and Owner of Propellernet, maintains her research shows that just 3 in 10 workers are engaged by their job. She has made it her mission to plug into the passions of her team to truly engage her staff at every level.

And the results speak for themselves – Propellernet has won awards across the marketing spectrum, from PR Moment and the DMA’s for impact through to the Grand Prix at The Drum for creativity. As well as for MD of the Year, Digital Woman of the Year and Business of the Year.

Nikki said: “The research shows that most employers are wasting 70% of their salary bill. It is terrifying. Employers need to bring their employees’ passions, their side-hustles, into the workplace and use them to improve what they do.

“That’s the way we approach every day at Propellernet. We ask people what they are genuinely interested in and try and incorporate that into their working day. An engaged workforce is an effective one.”

Martin Murphy described how he will use SAS tactics to give businesses a better chance of engaging their workforce.

He said: “The military is especially good at a tactical and operational level. We learn how to work together in small teams that are intra-dependent. I have designed a process based on this where workers on the frontline will have the ability to make decisions themselves without sinking the ship.

“It can be really rewarding and effective for businesses for these front-line workers to make their own decisions.”
