Make no mistake, Five represents the most extraordinary success story. To go from a standing start to deliver 6% of all viewing is a feat which will simply never be repeated. Added to which, the channel continues to go from strength-to-strength and has now entered the exciting multi-channel arena, with the successful October 2006 launches of Five US and Five Life.
Currently over 50 million UK viewers, across all platforms, are capable of receiving Five’s transmissions. And within any given week, well over 36 million of them choose to do precisely that. And now, the two new channels join Five in being available on satellite, cable and the fastest-growing platform of all, Freeview.

In 2006, Five took just under £300 million in advertising revenue, representing 8.7% of the total UK market. Clacksons

The Clackson Organisation is celebrating its centenary year. This is a remarkable anniversary for any business, but is exceptional for one which has remained privately owned since its foundation.

The guiding ethos of the organisation is ‘local focus: national vision’. In practice this translates into specialist expertise in fulfilling the local advertising needs of major national advertisers: when a supermarket chain opens a new store, or a car manufacturer is launching a new model, for example, Clacksons’ expertise will be vital in identifying the most appropriate local advertising media for their needs.

Clacksons also deal with a huge volume of recruitment and classified advertising, as well as entertainment, property and motors; everything, in fact, that readers expect from their local newspapers.

National advertisers, and their advertising agencies, appreciate Clacksons’ knowledge of the national advertising oportunities for regional and local press publishing, and the fact that we offer a single buying point for such a wide range of media. Sales arguments are supported by up-to-date marketing data, readership information and mapping technology.

We are a media planning and buying agency with almost 100 people across offices in Edinburgh, Manchester, Glasgow and Leeds.

Our clients range from the big spenders (Matalan, ScottishPower, Velux and First Group for example) to those with smaller budgets; from multi-media campaigns to single media solutions. We plan and buy media for over 300 clients, some regional, some national, and some international. We work closely and collaboratively with our clients, their other agencies, and media owners.

At Feather Brooksbank, media is about more than TV, radio, press, outdoor, cinema and the internet. To us, a medium is any way of communicating with consumers, from a television advertisement to a text message to a promotional gift. Expect us to keep finding new ways of communicating with consumers.

Manchester Evening News

The Manchester Evening News is published each week day evening and on Saturdays. It is distributed in Manchester and surrounding areas. It sells around 115,000 copies per day, and is read by approximately 400,000 people, making the Manchester Evening News the most widely read publication in the region.

The paper was first published in 1868 by Mitchell Henry as part of his Parliamentary election campaign. Shortly after the election the newspaper was sold to John Edward Taylor, the son of the founder and owner of the Manchester Guardian (now The Guardian). Taylor brought his brother-in-law Peter Allen in as a partner in the Evening News; after Taylor’s death in 1907 the Guardian was sold to its editor C. P. Scott while the Evening News passed into the hands of the Allen family. Scott’s Guardian bought the Evening News in the 1920s. From that time the two newspapers have always had a common owner – it is currently one of 62 newspapers owned by the Guardian Media Group.

Even though the MEN is given away in the City Centre, the newspaper still retails for 38p in the suburbs. In December 2006, the paper also began free distribution at Manchester Airport.

Bauer

Bauer is the largest privately owned publisher in Europe, publishing in Germany, France, Spain, Portugal and the United Kingdom. Additionally, Bauer publishes in the United States and Mexico.

The Bauer Publishing Group was founded in Hamburg 1875 by Johann Bauer. Under the management of four generations of the Bauer family, The Bauer Publishing Group has grown from its humble beginnings as a printing house into a worldwide publishing empire comprising 238 magazines worldwide in 15 countries, as well as TV and radio stations.

Bauer entered the U.K. scene with Bella magazine in 1987. Introducing a new format that mixes previously unseen real life editorial and exciting service features, Bella made a significant impact on the women’s market. The company gained attention again in 1990 with the launch of Take a Break magazine. Touching the lives of millions of women with its unique blend of upfront real life and competitions, the title quickly became market leader. Despite strong competition, Take a Break has maintained its no.1 status, currently selling over 1 million copies a week.

The 1990’s saw H. Bauer further strengthen its portfolio with the launch of TVQuick in 1991, that’s life! in 1995 and TVChoice in 1999. Together with sixteen successful puzzle titles within the stable, H. Bauer has always had a major presence in the UK magazine market with a considerable market share.

At the beginning of 2008, Bauer expanded its portfolio further by acquiring Emap’s Radio and Consumer Magazine divisions and changed the name of these new UK businesses to Bauer Radio and Bauer Consumer Media.

With the recent addition of the former Emap Consumer Media titles, Bauer is now the largest consumer magazine publishing company in the UK, playing a primary role in the Women’s Weeklies, Women’s Interest, Women’s Lifestyle, TV Listings, Puzzles, Men’s Lifestyle, Music & Film and Specialist magazine markets.

Bauer will continue to innovate, driving its business and the ever-evolving magazine market forward.

In our Group portfolio, there are some of the strongest brands in commercial radio, including Classic FM, Capital 95.8, Xfm, Planet Rock, theJazz and the proposed ‘classic hits’ network. In an ever changing and increasingly competitive media landscape, our offering continues to evolve so that we can give our listeners more of what they want and provide innovative solutions to advertisers.
