MPA - Manchester Publicity Association

about

A Brief Introduction

The MPA is a major force in the North West media community. It was founded in 1920 and is now the largest publicity association in Europe. Its aim is to promote excellence in all aspects of media, advertising, marketing and public relations. Members are drawn from media owners, agencies, client companies and organisations.

Welcome from MPA Chairman, Nicola Leyland

I feel really honoured to be addressing members for the first time as Chair of the MPA and I hope you won't mind if I start by reminding everyone of our purpose and core values within the Association.

The Manchester Publicity Association (MPA) is the largest of its kind in Europe and is managed by a dedicated team of passionate, experienced industry professionals. The MPA's remit is to provide great networking events, cost-effective training and development programmes, as well as providing great value and service for its members, both corporate and individual. Any profits made from these events are donated to charity and we remain one of the major national funraisers for NABS, the media industry's main charitable provider.

Our specific focus this year is to develop and implement a clear strategy that will enable the already incredibly successful MPA to flourish and grow still further. There is great potential to expand our membership base and social and training activities into more diverse areas such as the Digital and Creative industries. There is also potential to develop credibility and diversity by collaborating with other groups and associations nationwide. In all this I hope to provide the personal example and leadership that you would wish.

One of the biggest challenges we all face is the need to ensure that any event in which we invest our time and money is worthwhile and adds value to what we do. With this in mind it is really important that we have a clear understanding about the needs of our members in order for us to make the best decisions about the future of the MPA. This year we will conduct regular research to gather member feedback about the direction of the MPA, so please spend a few minutes completing any questionnaire that you may receive, as your opinion really will make a difference.

We are always keen to talk to anyone who wants to give something back to their dynamic industry. Key target areas for development this year will be Digital, Creative and PR, so please get in touch with any of the contacts on the MPA website www.mpa.org.uk if there is a specific area or event you are interested in. We really do look to members both to get involved in our activities and to help us actively in achieving our aims.
My email address is Nicola.leyland@emap.com and I welcome any thoughts and feedback you may have about the MPA - feel free to contact me at any time.

I look forward to seeing you at one of our great events soon!

Best Wishes
Nicola Leyland

Chairman, MPA

What is the MPA?

The MPA is managed by a Council of officers elected annually by the 800 strong membership. Those elected to Council work voluntarily to achieve the Association's key objectives, i.e.

  • to act as a strong voice for the media community within the North West;
  • to support members in their personal and professional development;
  • to ensure high standards of education and training for those who have joined or are contemplating a career within the media industry;
  • to provide a social forum for members, offering a wide range of entertainments and sporting events;
  • to raise funds for charity (in particular for the industry's own Advertising Benefit charity, NABS);
  • to add value to membership by offering a wide range of benefits at sponsored or discounted prices.
