Manimation returns to Manchester on 20th November

Spotlight on Manchester's animation sector during one-day animation event

The Children's Media Conference has teamed up once again with MIDAS, Greater Manchester's inward investment agency, to run a one-day event on 20 November in Salford under the banner of Manimation - Manchester's Animation Festival.

The daytime event is designed to inform companies and freelancers about key factors for success in working in animation, Visual FX, commercials, corporate, interactive, games, Apps and virtual reality. The Children's Media Conference has announced the roster of speakers for Manimation, the one-day animation business event on 20 November in Salford.

The speakers for Manimation Fusion (9.30am-7pm) include:
- Cathal Gaffney, CEO of one of Europe's most successful animation production houses, Brown Bag Films, who takes a look at the current global climate for animation properties and explains the thinking in setting up a new office in a new city - in Manchester.
- Jackie Edwards (Executive Producer, Animation and Acquisitions, CBeebies) who will be talking about funding.
- Jane Hyndman (, David Jackson ( and Christopher Halliday (BFI Certification Unit) will give their up-to-date assessment of Broadcast Commissioning, Investment Funds, EIS, Crowd-funding and other innovations - plus the Animation tax-break - what's working?
- Jean Flynn (Cosgrove Hall Fitzpatrick) and Tony Prosser (RealtimeUK) will discuss innovation in their work, how they get funded and how their pipelines and processes work.
- Paul Bason (Digital Innovation), David Barton (Cubic Motion), Matt Gyves (Adobe), Chris Hardcastle (Mainframe North), Ken Swain (EON Reality) and Lindsay Watson (Toon Boom) will look at new tech across the whole of the animation spectrum - including case studies on animation software, motion capture and 3D printing.
- There's a training and skills overview with Chris Bowden (Mackinnon and Saunders), Gina Jackson (Next Gen Skills Academy) and Sarah Ann Kennedy (University of Central Lancashire).
- Animation showcases with Steve Berman (The Composerworks),Kath Shackleton (Fettle) and Andy Wyatt (MMU).
