MPA Awards Winners 2017


The MPA and our partners Out There Events are delighted to let you all know that Adam Jupp, Head of External Affairs at Manchester Airport, will once again be chairing the judging for the MPA Awards 2017. Along with Adam, the MPA have also assembled a stellar line up for the judging panel including industry bodies and business leaders from national and regional businesses.

Vanessa Clifford


Vanessa is Chief Executive of Newsworks. She has worked in the media and marketing industry for over 20 years from media trainee via client side and eturning to media agencies. Her last agency role was Head of Publishing at Mindshare leading the press exchange team and she was a core member of the GroupM trading team. At Newsworks her role involves overseeing and developing the relationship with media agencies and advertisers, championing newsbrands and their role in the multi-platform world.

Holly Dewsbury


Holly currently runs Twitter EMEA's UKI ECS Agency and Direct teams and is a dual appointee of the IPA's Social Media and Programmatic council. Driving a multi million pound revenue stream for Twitters newly formed business unit after two promotions at Twitter, Holly takes great pride in both strategic and operational excellence advanced upon a global scale. Originally cutting her teeth in agencies from the age of 20 Holly leads with a first never follows approach. As a balanced and thoughtful leader she also contributes to wider industry boards and publications as well as advancing her education at Harvard Business School with a keen expression of interest in both Ad-Tech, Mergers and Acquisitions and Artificial Intelligence within the media sphere.

Patrick Harrison

Weber Shandwick

Director of Reputation Management and Strategic Media Relations. With over twenty years high profile media relations experience, Patrick is Weber Shandwick’s London-based reputation management specialist, providing strategic Boardroom-level advice, media training and crisis support to a wide range of multinational companies, charities, NGOs and academic organisations. Patrick was The Prince of Wales’ Press Secretary for over ten years, working with many high profile British brands, institutions and individuals. He led the multi-stakeholder communications teams for the 2005 and 2011 royal weddings and for 24 official tours to 37 countries, as well as for hundreds of UK visits. Originally a journalist, Patrick spent eight years in Central Government communications.

Beccy Irving

CarFinance 247

Beccy joined CarFinance 247 in 2016 in the newly created position of Head of Brand. Beccy joined the company as they recognised a goal of national awareness and brand salience, and is responsible for developing the brand strategy to deliver this goal. Beccy has previously worked in brand agencies such as The Chase and True North, and also running her own brand consultancy.

Adam Jupp

Manchester Airport Group

Adam joined Manchester Airport as head of external affairs in November 2015. He sits on the airport's senior leadership team, reporting to managing director Ken O'Toole and his role covers communications, public affairs and community relations. Prior to that, he spent five years at the Manchester Evening News, latterly as an associate editor, covering business and what's on, including the publication of Greater Manchester Business Week. He started his career in journalism at the Newcastle Evening Chronicle, Journal and Sunday Sun, where he was chief reporter up until his move to the M.E.N.

Joyce Kelso


Associate Director Marketing. Joyce has worked at a senior level in several communication agencies and in the not-for-profit sector. Joyce’s work at the IPA brings together the collective intelligence of its members to deliver future facing strategies that will ensure that its member agencies are more sustainable and profitable. With a passion for great creative work she has expanded her remit into several non-exec Director roles. 

Jane Luca


Jane Luca is Director of Public Affairs for ITV and has overall responsibility for the broadcaster’s relationship with Parliamentarians; key stakeholders; and other organisations with a specific focus on public policy issues. Jane has over 30 years of experience in television having joined Granada as a production secretary in the drama department. On joining the Management Team she held a number of positions at Granada and, following the merger with Carlton, became the Controller of External Affairs for ITV plc. Outside of ITV she is Chair of Women of the Year, a Governor of Manchester Grammar School and sits on the Council of the University of Salford.

Chris Mawdsley


Chris began his media planning career in the lovely surroundings of McCann’s in Prestbury in 1997 before moving to Feather Brooksbank just before the millennium bug ruined all our lives. A move to MediaVest Manchester 8 years later was followed by a move to MediaCity and the BBC in 2011. Now Head of Media Strategy, Chris is responsible for the planning and execution of a huge variety of campaigns for the Corporation, from dramas such as Sherlock and Taboo, entertainment blockbusters such as the Apprentice and younger priorities such as Radio One Big Weekend.

Jeff McCarthy


3xs award-winning blogger with as well as prize-winning author, Jeff is a board member of the MPA and has a key focus of driving marketing student employability at Manchester Met Uni. As a senior digital marketing specialist since 1996, he has helped many organisations across many sectors including Shop Direct, M&S Direct, 30+ football clubs, charities, sport brands and NGBs improve their digital and multi-channel marketing results. 

Jeff is a highly experienced speaker and trainer for CIM, IDM, Econsultantcy, MMUBS and more as well as providing in-house training for CIM Academy.

Steve Miller


Alongside managing the membership and business services team at the PRCA, he also oversees membership recruitment and retention. Steve also manages the PRCA Partnership Programme.

Simon Reddican

Publishers Audience Measurement Company

Simon is the CEO of Publishers Audience Measurement Company. He joined as CEO of NRS Ltd, predecessor of PAMCo in June 2014, and has worked with the stakeholders in the transition to the new organisation. PAMCo will deliver NRS data until August 2017, when it will unveil AMP (Audience Measurement for Publishers), the new industry currency for published media. His career began working in advertising agencies and then moved over to the sales side, heading up sales at Classic FM’s digital portfolio, and then worked as a Strategist at News International across Times Media. 

Anna Sampson

Magnetic Media

Head of Insight. An insight practitioner with sixteen years’ experience spanning start-ups to big agencies, Anna started out as a research executive at Carat before moving onto Rise Communications and then Mediacom. She now fronts the insight narrative for Magnetic and prides herself on telling compelling stories with all sorts of research, data and evidence. Anna believes in insight with a purpose that can be used to inform, inspire and shape brilliant communications planning and creative ideas. Magazine media plays a significant role in helping businesses and brands to thrive. As Head of Insight at Magnetic it's her responsibility to define for what objectives, in combination with which channels and precisely how this ever evolving media opportunity is best placed to deliver for their stakeholders.
